4 Important Nutrients to Prevent Eye Disease

Eyes are very important organs. Not only we have to take care of physical injuries but we must provide nutrients so that we can prevent eye disease. Common eye issue is the short-long distance sightedness. Plus, now we spend most of our time in front of the screen, phone, laptop, tv, etc. Vitamin A, C,E and Omega 3 Fatty Acid is among important nutrients to nourish our eyes. 

1. Vitamin A

Vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin involved in eye development. Dietary sources of vitamin A include dark green produce (eg. kale/turnip/mustard/collard/beet greens,broccoli), orange produce (eg. carrots, sweet potatoes, cantaloupe, papaya, apricots)

2. Vitamin C

Consumption of vitamin C can decrease the risk of cataract development. Dietary sources of vitamin C include citrus fruits, red and orange produce (eg. cantaloupes, peppers, tomatoes) green produce (eg. broccoli, brussel sprouts, peppers, cabbage), cauliflower, and berries.

3. Vitamin E

Vitamin E is a fat soluble vitamin that works with vitamin C to protect against free radicals in the eye; vitamin E deficiency is associated with retinal impairment. Dietary sources of vitamin E include dark green leafy vegetables, vegetable oils, avocado, butter, and proteins such as egg yolks, and nuts/seeds.

4. Omega 3 Fatty Acid 

Essential fatty acids aid visual development and retinal function. Sources of omega 3 fatty acids include cold water fish such as salmon, sardines, and halibut.
